When?
Construction of the Wat Thang Sai temple began in 1996. The temple complex was built to commemorate the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s (King Rama IX) accession to the throne. The King himself gracefully named the pagoda. “Phakdi Prakat” translates roughly to “Proclaiming Loyalty” reflecting the absolute devotion of the Thai people to their monarch. Nearby on the same hill sits the massive Phra Phuttha Kitisirichai statue, which was built simultaneously and dedicated to Queen Sirikit (the Queen Mother) for her 5th cycle (60th) birthday. Peculiarity
A unique aspect of this project is that it was funded entirely by public donations and the faith of local villagers (like the Ban Krut community), without utilizing any government funds. The pagoda was designed by M.R. Mitrarun Kasemsri, a highly revered royal palace architect and National Artist in Thai architecture. King Rama IX personally assigned him to design this masterpiece, ensuring it represents the pinnacle of modern Thai-Rattanakosin style.
