The Oriental Garden Lizard (Calotes versicolor), also known as the Changeable Lizard, is a widespread agamid species commonly found in Thailand’s forests, gardens, and near waterfalls. Growing up to 30–40 cm in total length, it is easily recognized by its distinct dorsal crest, a expandable gular (throat) pouch, and a very long, slender tail.
Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.
In Thailand, Calotes versicolor occupies various habitats ranging from urban green spaces to humid forest environments near natural water sources. The species is highly territorial and noted for its dramatic color-changing ability; during the breeding season or territorial disputes, the males’ heads and throat pouches can rapidly turn bright red or orange.
